This is one good looking town. What is the street paved with? Is that a track in the weeds to the left?
Some long forgotten cheap Acrylic craft paint from Hobby Lobby. I think it was made by Apple Barrel but there are many similar brands. The color was just a very light earth color and I slightly thinned it with water.
How thick did you smooth the spackle on? I want my road to be a little above the ambient adjacent grade. Sorry to ask so many questions but my first couple of gravel paving jobs have turned out really poor looking - too coarse and too dark. I’ve realized that nearly all gravel, and hard paving other than new asphalt, are very very light toned and nearly white in some cases...... but complexly varied in tone at the same time. Your layout theme is much like mine, a run down branch in a very rural setting, and I learn a lot looking at your pictures.
Thank you. I used cork roadbed to form the actual road and troweled on a fairly thin layer of spackling. I’ve also used a very light tan N scale ballast for gravel roads. Washes of paint really make it look more realistic. It’s a matter of trial and error mostly and I’ve had to repaint at times to get the look I was after. Good luck and have fun. Post pics when you can.
