Has anyone heard of using this brand and color of paint for Mandarin orange? I have been planning to repaint one of my 3 Lionel F7’s from black/yellow to o/w, and have been experimenting on this old Alco. The color looks fairly close to the real thing.
Yeah, if I didn’t know better, I would “straighten you out” on this. The real story: this is a Weaver FA2 that someone custom painted SLSF b/y and I bought it cheap on eBay. I am trying to get up the nerve to paint one of my Lionel Legacy F7’s in o/w, and I use this Weaver Alco for practice. It is going to be a challenge to mask straight lines on the compound curved nose of an EMD F. But I think I have the correct paints for the project. The more I look at this practice model, I think the orange is near precise. And for the record, SLSF only had FA1 and FB1’s, but “close counts” in my world.
I like the way that turned out. I tried out a few colors earlier this summer. The Rustoleum I tried was a shade more orange than yours. I'll have to see if I can find that poppy red. http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/tru-color-paints.11703/#post-72647
It is difficult to look at my unprofessional photos and see the resemblance to Mandarin orange. If you can find a can of satin Poppy Red, and have a sacrificial model of any sort to paint, then you can truly see if there is a good match. I feel that this color is closer than anything Lionel or Atlas has used on Frisco models.
