Now that I've already bought a used, undecorated RS-1, look what finally showed up on ebay. Oh well. At least I have an excellent picture to go by now when I get ready to decorate mine. (Not to mention I got mine for a lot less.) Anyway, I thought since I'm not going to buy it, I may as well let everyone know it's up for sale. Too bad I won't get any commission. Since it won't be on mine, this needs to be on another AT&N fanatic's layout. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atlas-HO-Di...833910?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item5affb0ce76
I was also wondering if it was lettered for the Frisco but even if not, it would be relatively easy to add lettering decals. Frankly, I'm so fascinated with the AT&N that I'm not sure I would mind if it was decorated for pre- or post-Frisco takeover. At least I saved 3 nice photos to use later.
Yes this is HO, I was just relating what the N scale version lettering was like. Since they're both Atlas, I figured they were the same. Tom G.
Wow... thought it was mislabeled and was an N scale model. The handrails are very large for HO and they're going to need some significant tweaking in order to be straight/etc IF they don't break in the process. I would likely want to cut them off, retain the stanchions, and form my own with brass as I have in the past, which IMHO would make it too much work and takes away from the RTR aspect. Otherwise, nice looking model. Edit: Even having said that, it's still very tempting, for the SLSF's RS-1's were really nice looking engines. I'd probably be better off to just start with an undec model, though, and make the needed handrail modifications. Drat.
Yup, reckon it is indeed HO. The size of the hand rails sure fooled me for a bit. Also, being a foreign listing, the English/textual descriptions aren't always accurate so that too, made me wonder. Anyway, HO it is.
I have one of the Atlas RS1s that I detailed, painted & decaled for Frisco. When I get home in the morning (I'm at work right now for 12 hours), I'll snap a picture & post here. Even though it's out of my era, I'm mightily tempted to convert it to DCC.
