From Richard Crabtree on Frisco Rails Across Missouri; A favorite building method of the railroads was to build trestles and slowly fill in underneath with dirt and rock. Such as the case with the Kansas City Ft. Scott and Memphis (KCFS&M) ~ aka Frisco and the Memphis Line that ran near Jones Springs here in Springfield, MO. This stereo view of the line was taken around 1881-89. Karl Brand Bridge C-207.9 was located on Billy Goat Hill, which was the on 1.28% maximum climb from Pierson Creek. The open-deck, framed trestle was replaced by a 2’ x 4’ x 86’ stone box. Edit 1/31/2024: Mile post location places the bridge and replacement fill just downhill from Billy Goat Cut. Pearson Creek is downhill to the east. Looking west from the Jones Branch confluence with Pearson Creek, just south of South Learning Tree Lane one can see the bridge/ full location. Today this is just north of the East Sunshine Street overpass over the Willow Springs Subdivision. The fill center is located to the east approximately behind 4337 East Whitehall Drive, Springfield, MO 64809-2365. MKD
