Here here, Keith...very good words. I'm reconsidering the use of a sector plate for our off-stage interchange traffic. The supplement to MRP 2010 has an article (most likely a previous MR article that I didn't see) on making sector plate staging with masonite. I think it might add extra flexibility, not to mention 3 or 4 fewer turnouts to potentially fail! Best Regards,
Good to hear from you, too, Mark. October 31, 2010, is a Sunday this year and it marks the 30th anniversary of the last day of the Frisco (if my history is correct). I might have a commemorative operating session that afternoon and have some Rosedale BBQ shipped-in. Other than getting ready for Halloween, you available?
In addition to the traditional 1940 to 1980 Frisco power scheme, I also model the Texas Special, the transition era Santa Fe, transition era Burlington Route, and some transition era Katy. The trouble is I don't have the space right now for a layout, so they are all setting in my closet on a shelf!
The Central Divisions has plenty of MOP and KCS activity (although the poor old KCS has no motive power in evidence just yet.) Klrwhizkid had the honor of doing the first run to the Van Buren Industrial Park last Saturday. I think the first service to the Van Buren port was by a CB&Q boomer temporarily workin' the MOP. The Frisco also did a new shove of transfer to the KCS; I think a Santa Fe boomer did that. Anyway, the "Divisions" is up and running again and open to all who can handle Normal scale. Photos of the weekend crews are or will soon be available on hograils.com. Future additions besides Fort Smith Zone 500 will include the Mansfield job, which will be a staging-and-back-later run to keep the yard hopping. As always, input on 1980's operations is greatly appreciated, like what else besides coal and explosives came back on that run?
OK, don't anybidy here lynch me, but.........I picked up a BN SD45 off of eBay. Not to fear- it's gonna be "patched" Frisco as a goof and stay that while until I strip the shell, and redetail & repaint it into proper colors.
Interesting. Whats your plan on the patch job? I've had a couple ideas just curious what yours were? Tom GJ
That's a pretty good idea. You know, the Walt Disney Company has mastered appealing to the sense of smell at many of its Walt Disney World attractions. It's often made me think that there must be a way to conjure up the smell of a steam-era yard. How could I recreate the smell of coal and oil smoke, cinders and journal waste? And, I would still love to find a way to model 1:87 torpedoes and fusees. Best Regards,
I have been giving thought in trying to get a new railroad tie and placing it under the layout. Now that would really give off the smell of the railroad. Bob Wintle
