Attached are pictures taken of the Frisco K-96 overpass, Bridge 462.2, while on a tour of the Wichita Subdivision with Bob Hoover (friscofriend).

It is about 3 1/2 miles west of Beaumont, KS, MP 458.5, just west of SE Gray Rd, on the north side of US 400 Highway. When US 400 was built, an overpass was built over the railroad just to the south of the Art Deco bridge. The new bridge nearly goes over the Frisco overpass.

It is a very nice Art Deco structure in very good shape other than pesky graffiti.

It can be seen on Google Maps in Earth view here.

Bruce Adams (ba) had posted pictures of this bridge taken in the 1990s.

Based on Bruce's photos, someone needs to spray a little brush killer and make it more visible.

Looking down the old Kansas 96 Highway (K-96) toward Beaumont, KS. The new right of way for US Highway 400 and its overpass over the railroad are on the rise to the right. The new highway is on built up fill to pass over the railroad. View looking east.

West abutment on the north side of the highway. Cast into the abutments on each side flanking the highway are FRISCO and Lines. Truly a very handsome and impressive structure. View looking northeast.

Through plate girder (TPG) ballast deck bridge. This span is 77'-6" long. View looking east.

    IMG_1091.JPG

East abutment on the south side of the highway. Recessed LINES lettering and stripe detail were cast into the abutments when they were poured. The east side faces are mirror images of these west side faces. View looking southeast.

East abutment on the South side of the highway. Recessed FRISCO lettering and stripe detail were cast into the abutments when they were poured. View looking southwest.

East abutment on the south side of the highway. View looking southwest.

Through plate girder span, underbody of ballast deck and cross bracing details. In the distance a connecting spur links the new and old highways. View looking west.

    IMG_1096.JPG

West end bridge abutment on north side of the highway. The LINES lettering on this side is mostly obscured by brush and tree growth. View looking northwest.
