In the January 1981 issue Trains® magazine published "SY 03-08-80, 24 hours at the crossroads of the Frisco" documenting operation of March 3, 1980. The article was written by Dan Overbey and Patrick D, Hiatte.

A great article! And Mr. Overbey and Mr. Hiatt are true gentlemen. (Missing page 29 in the scans)

Actually, a maximum of 10 uploads are allowed on one post, so one page was bound to be truncated from David's original post.

This is a great article with fantastic insights into operations for the final days of the Frisco.

    Two observations:

    1. I am surprised at the high number of extras in the lineup, and I''m surprised by the volume of cars all these extras brought in.

    2. I didn't realize how short on power the Frisco was at this time. Makes me wonder why they hadn't ordered more units, or turned to leasing extra power from eastern roads like others did during this time frame.
