I am just curious, are there any FRISCO depots or stations left standing and in use today. I know of Union Station in St. Louis, but as for the rest of em. I have no idea!!|-|
Neodesha, KS is still standing (metal shed in yard that served as station in final years) and is used by Watco for their operations.
Bristow, OK, now city offices, in the 1980's my Father, Mother and I drove the whole Frisco System, at that time there were only about 12 depots still standing and none of them were used by the RR. We can thank Big Nothing for that!
Tom, the Webster Groves depot is still there, but in need of roof replacement. It is my understanding that the club is trying to get financial assistance, but the city is not interested. The Mission Style depot in Poplar Bluff is still there. See my pix: http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/poplar-bluff-mo.257/
Richard and All: In some states, I believe including here in Kansas, railroads demolished or sold depots to get them off of tax roles. That to me is just smart economics! Also Augusta, KS is still standing.
The Carthage, MO depot still exists, although it has been moved a little over a mile to private property. It shares space with a former MP caboose that has been painted in Frisco colors.
Here are the first couple Frisco depots I can think of that still exist. Fort Smith,AR(museum), Van Buren,AR(museum/train station for A&M RR), Fayyettville,AR (Mexican restaurant), Mammoth Springs,AR(museum with Frisco caboose on display), Phocohantas,AR (Church),Bentonville,AR (Museum/Chamber of Commerce. Has a CRIP caboose painted in SL-SF paint). This is the Arkansas List. Ship it on the Frisco!!! Murphy Jenkins
Keith, do they have a museum in the depot there? I talked to a fellow by phone a few years back, as their Historic Society was getting ready to observe the anniversary of the tornado that flattened the original depot and subsequently led to the construction of the extant version. However, I can't recall if their society/museum occupies the building or not. Best Regards,
I had no idea the depot in Neodesha was the old depot. I used to work out of that building. I knew it belonged to FRISCO because I found alot of old FRISCO documents in some of the lockers there years ago. But I figured it was just the old yard office. I have seen pictures of the original Neodesha Depot from back in the steam days. My new layout is planned to fill a 3 car garage and be double decked and so I am planning on covering alot of real estate but in HO scale. Trying to plan an area to cover.
Also surviving on the former Bentonville Branch is the depot at Southwest City, Missouri. It is located in a field about one-half mile from the original location. As of July 2009 it was in an advanced state of decay. The depot was painted as the Liberty City depot in the 1939 film Jesse James. The depot at Okmulgee ,OK is used by BNSF field forces.
Riverton, KS depot was moved and is behind a house in Baxter Springs and the Waco, MO depot is behind a house about a block east of it's original location. John Chambers
The old station east of Aberdeen, MS (Aberdeen Jct.) is still standing beside the old Frisco track on the east bank of the Tennessee-Tombigbee waterway. The line was moved for construction of the waterway near the end of the Frisco era.
Clayton, OK, Poteau, OK, Ada, OK, Elgin, OK, Frederick, OK, Antlers, OK, Hugo, OK, Paris, TX (Joint facility), Idebell, OK, Ashdown, AR, St. James, MO, West Plaines, MO, Mammoth Spring, AR, Crocker, MO.
What about Steelville, Mo? Is it still standing? It was the last time I was down there, but that was about ten years ago. Ken
Steelville was still there when I passed through a few weeks ago and snapped this pic with my phone. It seems to be occupied by some sort of civic group.
The Frisco depot in Rogers, AR , a steel building , is now used by the Rogers Water Department. The Frisco depot in Springdale, AR , a steel building, is used by the A & M RR as their dispatch center.
