Hello! I've read numerous books and seen posts referring to "spot" series locomotives. What does that mean? Sorry if this is a remedial question, I searched the site but couldn't find an answer. Thank you.
"Spot engines" were those numbered in single digits on most railroads. Sometimes double-digit numbers qualified the locomotive as a "spot" as well. For the Frisco, the "spot" locomotives were the 60 Baldwin 2-10-2 steam locomotives built in 1916-1917. These were numbered 1 through 60. See the sub-forum Historical >> Motive Power >> Steam Locomotives >> 2-10-2 Santa Fe, or follow this link: http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?forums/2-10-2-santa-fe.198/ to find more information.
