There was at one time a magazine that was a monthly publication titled "Southwestern Railway Journal". It proclaimed to be the "Largest circulation of any labor publication in the Southwest". It was a monthly magazine published in Ft. Worth in the interests of the railroad brotherhoods which included locomotive engeineers, firemen and conductors.

A copy of the January 1935 issue is posted on the Texas State Legislative Board of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. Mr. Terry Briggs is Chairman. Terry found this copy of the SRJ and posted it at www.tslb.org. Go to the Members Only page (open to everyone) and take a look at railroading in the Southwest in 1935.

The site itself is interesting and also covers safety issues including the accidents that have occured using the remote control devices in lieu of engineers!

The SRJ covers the territory (including Frisco) that Tom Blackwell´s excellent magazine "The Cowcatcher" does today. It can be found at www.cowcatchermagazine.com.

Anyone who may have or know where copies of the SRJ might be should contact Terry as he wants to post as many as he can locate on the tslb site. The SRJ is an interesting look into railroading and the lives of railroaders as it once was.
