Howdy folks, Today I picked up a Tsunami decoder for 567 engines. I've used the Tsunami's for steam sound, and I love them. I plan to use the new decoder for the lead unit of a pair of E8's. The second loco is a P2K DCC with QSI sound. Does anyone know if the new Tsunami has sound for dual 567 motors or is it a single motor sound? Happy rails, mike
Re: Soundtraxs Tsunami for 567 engines I believe it's for a single 567 but one of my friends experimented by setting "reverb" on his making it sound as if there were 2 567s closely synched up. I'll ask more about it on Wednesday.
Re: Soundtraxs Tsunami for 567 engines When you go to install your new Tsunami purchase this brand of speaker for your installation. http://www.railmasterhobbies.com/ I purchased the DSM8 for my GP 38 installation. It vastly improved the sound. These are the best speakers I have ever heard in a model locomotive. Yes they are a little more expensive but they are darn well worth it. Bob Wintle
Re: Soundtraxs Tsunami for 567 engines I have seen your post about them before. What is the difference between the High Bass and High Quality? Also what are the enclosures for?
Re: Soundtraxs Tsunami for 567 engines I am not a sound engineer and am not familiar enough with the terminology to accurately describe it. Basically the enclosure is what guides the sound in the direction that we want it to travel. If their were no enclosure some of the sound would distribute itself inside of the model. The loco sound would not seem as loud. I do not have the words to explain the high bass or high quality other than to say other speakers I have sound less realistic and kind of have a tinny sound to them. I hope this helps. Just take my word for it these new speakers although more exspensive are the way to go. Bob Wintle
Re: Soundtraxs Tsunami for 567 engines Thanks Bob. I heard a demo of the high bass DHB8 at a train show and was very impressed by the sound quality. I'll give the DSM8 a try, too. ~mike
Re: Soundtraxs Tsunami for 567 engines Thanks for the responses folks. The high bass speakers have a larger voice coil and the convex tweeter dome supposedly has something to do with making the bass sound like it is from a big speaker. As modelers, the more bass a speaker emits, the more realistic it sounds. I like the reverb idea, and Tsunamis do have a nice reverb section. Best, mike
Re: Soundtraxs Tsunami for 567 engines The real key to the High Bass speakers that Bob has plugged is that they are Bass Reflex enclosures. The speaker cone is placed in one side of sealed box and somehwhere in that box is a strategically placed hole of a calculated diameter. The whole affair emphasizes the bass frequencies for better frequency repsonse.
Re: Soundtraxs Tsunami for 567 engines The Reverb settings for Tsunami decoders to simulate dual prime movers are: CV 161 = 7 Reverb Control: User Adjustable CV 162 = 255 Reverb Output Level (% of Reverb to be mixed back in x/255): 100% CV 163 = 255 Reverb Delay (time delay of input signal x X .25ms): 64ms CV 164 = 0 Reverb Gain ( % of Reverb output to be mixed back into delay x/255): 0 CV 171 = 255 Diesel Engine Exhaust Reverb Effect Sound Level (% of Exhaust Reverb fed into amplifier x/255): 100% Thanks to Soundtraxx for these values. Note: Soundtraxx now has a Dual 567 sound decoder #827115
