The incident occurred during Oct 23, 1951. RS-1, 105, was pulling 22 cars into a side track, when it struck a cut of eleven cars. Three cars including the locomotive were derailed.
Timothy, Doing a little research on the forum this evening and stumbled across your post on the RS-1. Thanks for posting that. RS-1's are one of my favorite diesels. There's a highly modified Kato HO scale RS-1 (thanks to Tom Holley) on our layout that is one of my favorites (one of those that won't be sold).
That is one of the few "non-railroad" photos that shows the RS-1 in original livery on the River Division. Good catch Tim!
