Painting a GP7 in Frisco Orange and white

Discussion in 'Modeling Tips' started by Stuart Mitchell, Sep 6, 2010.

  1. HI..

I just picked up a pair of Atlas GP7 Undec in N-Scal and would like to paint them in the Orange and White paint..

What is the best way to do so, Do I paint the bodies white and then mask off and paint the orange or the other way round???

How thick does the white strip need to be?? Whats the best way to add the nose strips??

    Thanks in advance
    Stuart

I've always found it works best to do white, then orange. The stripes will probably be found with your decals, but no guarantee's.

Stuart, do you have the decals already? I might have something of assistance, but I'll have to check on whether the stripes are there.
I haven't thought of a GP7 or such for my 1980 timeframe, but I do need an older white Geep for the KCS; I'd like to pair it with a GP30 for the Dodger coming into Fort Smith from the south. So I'll be interested in your success with the paint job.

    Steve

I'm hoping to get some decal from Nscale Supplies but this my be a problem as they are telling me they need to get them from Micro-scale who don't have any, there is a shop on E-Bay sell 8 sets but they will not ship to Australia even thought I have offerd my first born to do so...

As I'm re-starting back in N-Scale I still have to build a fleet of locos and rolling stock, as for locos I'm hoping to buy a pair of each of the GP's SD and some switchers as I have a pair of very nice running sw9 which have been striped and ready for paint, but I will wait till I have a few locos to do at once.

    Thanks
