Though weathered, rusted, patched and disfigured by grafitti, SL-SF 600141 is still earning it's keep over 35 years after it was built. Photographed near the former site of the Tower Grove station on April 5, 2007 by Rich Lawler. The crossing with the former Missouri Pacific Oak Hill branch has been taken out recently.

I was scouting the west side of the extensive yards of the BNSF in Galesburg IL when I came upon an unexpected but familiar sight. As I walked closer, I realized that PC&F boxcar SL-SF 600260 had lost its trucks and was being used as a storage shed along with 3 other box cars. Notice that all grab irons and brake equipment have been removed. The 3 tracks close by seemed to be a scraping operation as it had beat up gondolas and old covered hoppers on the outside tracks and a crane on the middle one. The business where the boxcars were did not seem to be part of the railroad, or railroad related. A stencil on the car read "Return to Manufacturers Ry, St. Louis MO". Manufacturers Railway is a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch, so this car spent its life on the road hauling beer.

One of the other dethroned boxcars was SL-SF 700108: http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?t=4240
