  1. Hi,
I am just now exploring the history of the Frisco. I am currently working on the Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway (AGR) which operates the former Frisco line south from Amory, MS through Alabama. The line seems to have a fascinating history and I am hoping to gain more insight into its history.

I am working down here temporarily having come down to Alabama while business is slow on a sister road of the AGR.

  4. Thanks for the welcome. I am visiting from the New England Central RR another Rail America property. Things are still slow back home and they need help down here so I am working out of Magnolia Yard and staying in Thomasville. I haven't met anyone yet with any ties to the old Frisco.

I find the line really interesting. The scenery is a bit bland but the railroad history must be fascinating. One of the things that amaze me is the number of diamonds we encounter. So far I have worked between Amory, MS as far down as Macmillan, AL site of a large International Paper Co. mill.

I met up with a railfan yesterday that was visiting from Macon, GA and he showed me some old 1970's photos taken at Frisco City, Columbus and Linden. He also recalled memories of the crew hotel at Magnolia Yard.

I have not found many photos on line of the line south of Amory. Can anyone recommend any sites? If anyone has any questions, please fire away. I am sure I will not know the answer but will try my best to find out.

    Thanks again,
    Joe

  5. I just noticed Charlie hails from Calais, Maine. I pass through there all the time when visiting family in Canada! I remember as a kid, always straining to peak over the side of the bridge while waiting at the border crossing to see if I could see any Maine Central Railroad power at the little metal engine house below.
