Hello- I'm in Montgomery, AL, and grew up along the old CoG right of way between Eufaula and Ozark. I'm an armchair railfan, and recently had the good/mis-fortune to acquire former Frisco caboose 1255 after the convenience store to which it was attached caught on fire. One end got kind of toasty, but there doesn't appear to be any major warping of the metal. The intent right now is to sandblast, paint, and replace the windows and floors- more preservation than restoration. I haven't had a chance yet to comb through the threads yet to see what resources are available, but any shortcuts or tips will be appreciated.

Welcome aboard, J.R. Sounds like you have a good deal of work ahead of you - I think there are others on the site who can provide some guidance. There are also plenty of resources in terms of photos, drawings, etc. that you can browse through at your leisure that may be useful for your preservation efforts.

Feel free to share updated photos as you progress.

    Best Regards,

JR, it's great to hear about a preservation project for a Frisco artifact. Thanks for taking it on.
I'm sure there will be a lot of interest here on the site for progress updates.
    Welcome, and good luck!

Frisco-train-derailment-03-08-1966-3.jpg 1255 is no stranger to misfortune. Very happy to see you restoring her instead of just cutting her up.
