Mississippi River Crossing - Bridge 482.1 - Memphis TN, MP 484.3 - Memphis Subdivision

    Just found this site.

A bridge that should get a lot more notice than it does is the Frisco Memphis Bridge.

This was the first bridge to be built across the lower Mississippi River, and was the southernmost bridge across the river until 1930. It was opened in 1893 and was originally planked level with the top of rails to be used by wagons between trains.

I did a report on this bridge my senior year in college, but that was 35 years ago. Today this bridge has no clearance restrictions and handles double stacks. It has some restrictions on short cars and power and braking restrictions and a 25 mph speed limits, but otherwise no weight restrictions.

I have some pictures I will try to find and will try to locate the data.

    Interested?

Edit 2/1/2024: Added river crossing, bridge number, station, mile post and subdivision.
