I'm sure they're out there somewhere but it seems to me that female modelers are few and far between. I'm doing my part to change that.
My wife and I have 2 girls...6 & 4. Our girls are just as crazy about trains as I was at their age if not more. They are crazy about Thomas the tank engine. We bought them an HO Thomas with 2 coaches for Christmas in 2008. Since I put a temporary layout together about a month ago, Thomas has been "a very useful engine," as they say on the cartoon. Since then, Thomas hasn't had a day off. It's really given me another way to spend time with my girls. It's nice to see that with the technology available to kids today, there's something about model trains that still facinate kids...even little girls. They're grown and gone before we know it. So, before they leave the nest, (and as long as they're still interested), we're going to "Ship It On The Frisco" for as long as we can around our house! Who knows, maybe they'll pass it down to the next generation. Who said girls don't play with model trains? HA!

My two oldest daughters (now 30 and 29) won Best of Show at a Model Railroad meet 20+ years ago. They modeled a diorama. They had guidence from dear old dad but did the work themselves. Words cannot express the feeling of pride ol dad felt all those years ago. I just wish my children were into Modleing now. I am just hoping my two new grandaughters (Emory and Elly) get the bug.
