I have a couple questions about the lighting on frisco diesels. 1. why did frisco use gyra lights and roof becans? 2. What lights where left on in a MU situation. example I have of this question is: 2 B30-7's #863&864 where put together for a train. Wouldn't 863 (the front locomotive) have all of it's lights on (grya, roof becan, number boards)? And what lights would 864 (the trailing locomotive) have on?

Assuming you are talking pre track warrant days, the lead unit would have the gyro light, head light, and beacon on. It may or may not have the class lights on (depending if the train is running extra, first section, etc.) and number board lights on (depending if it is the identifying unit in the consist). Lights on all the other units would be off except the trailing light on the rear unit would be set to come on in consist reverse move. The beacon lights should be shut off, but may or may not be on. The identifying engine would always have the number lights on (and class lights if running extra, etc.). Also, it was the head end crews responsibility to make sure any trains met knew that the identifying unit was in the consist when not the lead unit.
