Recently Bob Thomas posted this photo of a partially streamlined Pacific: http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index....-8-30-1946-0klahoma-historical-society.14688/ Was anything like this ever produced in HO scale? Both Sunset and PSC imported the Firefly and Sunset did the basic 4-6-2. I love the 1050 (page 131 in the Collias book) with the doric stripes. The partially streamlined version in the photo Bob posted is also great looking, but I don't have a model of either. Sunset models tended to be like Hallmark models during the era of early Korean brass: some were good but a lot was junk. Were the Sunset Frisco Pacifics good models or would you need one modified by Don Wirth for it to run? Thanks in advance for any input!!!
I'm basically out of the engine work due to old age and essential tremor. The Sunset 1015 class were my project and I provided them with drawings, photos and whatever else I could come up with for their builder. When he told me they would be built by Dong Jin my heart sunk. He build to much junk for Hallmark, but when the models arrived I saw that he did a great job on them. I was relieved. Both versions are accurate and well built. I never considered modifying one to represent this semi streamlined version.
Hi Don, Thanks so much for the response. Your sentiments regarding Dong Jin are well founded!!! But they did occasionally produce a good model, so that's great to hear regarding the Frisco 4-6-2. I will start looking for a well painted example to buy. Regarding the semi streamlined version, my guess is that it would take two models--one for the locomotive and one Firefly model for the tender. That could get expensive, unless you managed to find two, each with damage to the part you don't need. Thanks a ton for the information. If you know of anyone with an extra Frisco 1015 class with Doric stripes, please let me know!!!!!!
