My name is Robert Collins. I'm an author, and have written several books on Kansas railroads (among other things). One of the books is "The Border Tier Road," a short history of the Frisco line south out of KC through Ft. Scott and Baxter Springs. I'm planning to put out (very soon) a collection of my RR articles. It would include my piece on the robbery of a Frisco train in Andover; a history of the Frisco/ATSF Kansas Southwestern line; and a piece on the short-lived Frisco Halstead branch. I'm also a model railroader, working in N scale with an interest in the Frisco. Looking forward to sharing and learning more.
Howdy Robert, Welcome aboard. I'm sure you'll find some fun and information in our community. We're looking forward sharing experiences and thoughts with you. Best Regards, mike
Robert--Are you any relation to the rail photographer Robert Collins who took a lot photos of Frisco and Katy (and other RR's) trains during the WWII era when he was stationed in the area? Thanks, Tom Galbraith
Nope. Mine just happens to be a common enough name. I've heard of a screenwriter with that name, a fantasy writer, and the guy who has robertcollins.com is a lawyer in Texas (I think). So now I can add railroad photographer to the list.
Robert Collins (the photographer) had some of the best Frisco and Katy steam era shots ever. They've been published in the railfan and model press for years. Books too. Tom
Robert, I own, and have read, a copy of your "Border Tier" book. Welcome aboard, and thanks for researching and writing about the origins of the MRFS&G, KCFS&G, KCFS&M, et al! Bradley A. Scott
