My primary interest has been with railroads in Illinois (in particular the numerous routes south of Chicago) that crisscross the state. In learning more about operations close to St. Louis, the Frisco came on to my radar. I'm an avid fan of learning about the industries the railroads served and car routings. I came across this site and was pleasantly surprised to find some much historical information (much more than another other railroad historical society I have come across with the only exception being Conrail). Great material! I look forward to poring through all the newfound information. Thanks! Steven Johnson Charlotte, North Carolina
Steven, Welcome Aboard. You will find a lot here and even more than already posted here just by asking. There are a lot of very knowledgeable and helpful people here that are ready and willing to answer any questions that they are capable of. If you have any questions about what you see or don't see, let us know. Also if you find the site worth your time, please consider donating to the cause since this is all supported by voluntary donations.
Steven, Welcome aboard! The Railroad Historical Museum, Inc. has received a donation of literally dozens if not hundreds of RR post cards, photos, etc. The donor's late father was employed by the New York, New Haven & Hartford RR. Many of these artifacts are from other areas of the U.S. but certainly many cover the "big four" and other railroads serving Chicago plus many short line railroads across the U.S. & Canada. It is a challenge sorting these out and hopefully connecting with some of the former lines. Probably some of the artifacts go back to 1900? Joe G. Felin
Welcome to the group, Steve, and welcome to the world of the SL-SF. There'll be plenty to keep you busy as you dig into it more deeply. Best Regards,
Welcome aboard, Steven! I spend quite a bit of time in Charlotte throughout the year as I am a photographer for some teams on the Nascar circuit. Maybe I will treat you to dinner one day and we will swap RR stories.... John Moore
