Mandarin orange and white GP7 SLSF 617 leads two black sisters and a short train over U.S. Highway 96 bridge near Beaumont, KS.

Second unit may be GP7 SLSF 538, but the number is not clear.

    Photographer unknown.

    Slide is dated January,1969.

Edit 2/28/2024: The 4 car train with an extended or wide vision caboose is westbound, running from the southeast to the northwest in this image.

Beaumont, KS, MP 458.5, is on the Wichita Subdivision. This is bridge 462.2. The single steel span is a 77'-6" skewed through plate girder (TPG). The bridge abutments were made in Art Deco style. Cast in depressions note the railroad Frisco Lines, split on either side by the highway.

Today, a newer bridge spans over the right of way immediately to the south of this location. The new bridge is now U.S. Highway 400, old U.S. 96. The caboose in this image is very close to where the new bridge crosses above the tracks. From this new highway one can still access the old roadway and Frisco bridge.

    View looking east southeast.

Ruth Yard is located east of South Maiden Lane, east of Roosevelt Avenue and north of West 20th Street. The yard axis lies on a diagonal northeast to southwest.

In the distance above the forward spark arrestor is the red and white striped television broadcast tower at the station and studios of KSNF TV16. The NBC affiliate station is located at 1502 South Cleveland Avenue, Joplin, MO 64801.

    View is looking west northwest.
