    Good Evening,

My name is Gary Howard and I live in Rockport, Texas. The reason I have joined this site is that I have relatives that use to live in Hugo, Oklahoma and recently while doing family history research have found that my grandfather on my Mother's side (Abbott Harvey Powell) and a great-father (George Lewis) both are shown to have worked on the Frisco Railroad in Hugo.

One was called a Machinist Assistant and the other was a Engineer Inspector. I am not sure what either of these positions actually does but would like to learn and to see if there is anyway to get information on my past family and their work time with the Frisco.

I look forward to being able to talk with several of you to learn more of the Frisco and am planning an upcoming trip back to Hugo soon to see the Frisco museum which I understand is there.

    Thank you,

    Gary Howard

Have you tried The Frisco: A Look Back at the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway on the www. Click on employee card and type in the surname. Another idea is to research the Frisco Magazines which are also on the same site.
    Good Luck:)

What a coincidence- my wife's family was from Hugo. Matter of fact, she was born & raised in that city. Her parents are now out in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. I'll ask her & see if she may know anything about your family.

BTW, the museum is nice- last time I was there, the Harvey House was restored & fully operational. The depot was completely restored by the local historical society, and is chock-full of interesting items, including a model of a five-ring circus tent (in honor of the many circuses that called Hugo home, and still do- Carson-Barnes & Kelly Miller Bros.)

    Welcome aboard!
