This one actually happened on the old Frisco. There is nothing more frightening than a member of a train crew i.e. conductor, who is not only an adult, but scared of the dark. On this particular night we had already dodged tornadoes, had a few close calls at crossings, and had one last switching move. We pulled the cars for pick-up at an industry, ( can't remember which one) and had the air test complete. My conductor had only to reline the switch and walk back to the headend and we would be on our way. He is so scared of the dark he is making conversation with me over the radio. He even went as far as asking me to sing a song. I told him I would think about it when all of a sudden, over the radio comes a very loud very frantic "MOMMA.........." I was wondering whagt in the blazes did he run into that scared this kid half to death, well that was answered in a matter of seconds after I wondered it. He kept his radio transmission button pushed the whole entire time he stood there cussing out a blabbering goat that as near as I could figure was scared of the dark too and needed a friend to get him through till morning. |-|:)|-|:)|-|
