Back in the late 1950's, I went with my parents to Vinita, OK to pick up my grandmother who was traveling from Kansas City. Unfortunately, we went to the wrong depot and made her wait. I was only 5 at the time, but remember a train pulling in. My memory could be wrong, But what I remember is steam locamotive entering the station with an older passenger car. The train appeared odd, because I was used to riding the streamlined Sante Fe Tulsan. Later I learned that the "wrong" station we went to was the Vinita Frisco depot. Unfortunately, this depot was demolished in the 1960's.
I would greatly appreciate if someone could set my memory straight. Was Frisco still running steam in the late 1950's?

    Thank you.

Frisco steam ended in 1952. Katy (The other RR at Vinita), ended steam 1953 or 1954. There may have been some odd, isolated runs later. The Frisco ran East to West through Vinita, the Katy North and South. The routes crossed at a 90 degree level crossing protected by a tower.
