That's a really interesting read. Thanks for sharing. I'm surprised to see a VO-1000 sent out of yard duty into local service. I don't think I've seen an example of that before
The article needs supplementation. 1. The two baggage cars were entrained for the "sole" purpose of handling chicks from the Booth Hatchery in Clinton. The chicks were handled by the Railway Express Agency, hence the specially equipped baggage cars. More about this... http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index....o-all-aboard-magazine-article-june-1956.3091/ 2. The Clinton Sub, local passenger trains, 20 and 21, were discontinued May 28, 1954. 3. During October 10, 1959, REA Messenger, Howard Freeman was shot and killed by teenage boys, who were taking potshots at number 59 as it passed Belton. http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index....mullen-road-belton-mo-10-10-1959.17/#post-114 4 The siding remnant mentioned in the article was not the Katy. Besides the Katy remnant, the Frisco also still served a remnant of the Kansas City, Clinton and Springfield, also known as the Leaky Roof. The photo in the article shows number 59 switching the old Leaky Roof. See this for the layout at Harrisonville. http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index....ola-subdivision-mp-45-9-kccs.1255/#post-61543
Just an observation: There appears to be a typo in the caption of the lead photo. In that caption the date is noted as "April 1968". In the other references it's "April 1965". I think the April 1965 date is correct.
