    Folks:
Took a look at the Springfield-Greene County Library "Frisco Underground" collection today for the first time in a while.

There is now a section titled "Employee Cards." One can search by name and find employee cards from 1940 onward that lists name, parents names, location of assignment and job title. Not all cards are viewable yet but I found several for Frisco Folk that I've known, past and present.

Concerning cards that are not on line, the library has informed me that If the Frisco employee was born after 1930, the library will provide by email only the following information: Name, year of birth, date and location of employment, residence, and job title. I suppose this is to protect privacy of potentially still-living individuals, even if the requester knows them to be dead. Likewise, Social Security numbers are blanked out from the cards; of course, they are available elsewhere on line in the Social Security Death Index, so the library's obliterating them seems needless.

Also, while I certainly understand the need to prioritize and limit the sheer quantity of data on line, only those Frisco employees in Missouri seem to be included. My grandfather was a Frisco locomotive engineer in Texas, but his name does not appear. Many of my great-uncles from Missouri are there, though, and some of their cards have been very helpful in finding middle names and marriage status. Just seeing their handwritten signatures so many years after their deaths is pretty exciting, too.

The library site also has a huge Frisco photograph collection on line.

Here's the explanation why the focus is on Missouri.
"About one month ago, the Library received a $27,000 grant from a Missouri State Library entity. The grant, which will last a year, will permit the scanning of selected images from the Frisco Museum inventory now owned by Louis Grisemer of Springfield, MO. The first priority is scanning about 600 captioned photos that show Frisco rolling stock, including steam locomotives, and the interior of various types of cars. It sounded as if some of these images were Frisco publicity photos. The second priority is creating scans of each Frisco depot in Missouri. The third priority is scanning early All Aboard employee magazines especially those prior to 1935. The fourth objective is to scan approximately 20,000 cards that were filled out by Frisco employees between 1940 and about 1978. The cards could be of great interest to genealogists as the cards have the individual’s name, address, name of parents, starting occupation and initial location on the Frisco. The final project is placing a number of Frisco depot postcards on the web."

    Hi Chris,

I'm glad you posted the SPFLD Library Site.

I just joined "All Aboard" a few minutes ago, and stumbled on your post. I checked out my own name, and sure enough, there it was. I was a Frisco Special Agent back in the late 70's. I worked out of the St. Louis Terminal.

    Regards,
    John

The Frisco employee cards also contain information on some Frisco employees in Arkansas.
