Here is another BN train into KC via Sioux City.

There are two cars heading to Bentonville, Ar which have a commodity of "games". Does anyone know what that is?

    Thanks Ken,

I suppose Walmart started in 1950, so it is plausible and it was a cheap way of transporting stuff.

All I remember from 1977 was "Pong"! Usually in some watering hole.

Board games for Wal Mart? Maybe even made in the USA at this date!

If it was August of 1977, it wasn't video games. Two cars of board games sounds like a lot, considering the Wal-Mart chain at that time was mostly small stores in the four-state area. But nobody else to receive anything like that. Sam might have found a deal, was stocking up for holiday sales. Warehouse #2 had been expanded by that time, had rail doors all down the south side. The next warehouse they built in Bentonville, in 1979, only handled a couple of cars, mostly for motor oil, a heavy, non-time sensitive shipment.
By early 80's BN service was such that they gave up on rail traffic into Bentonville. The Bentonville depot had a hole in the roof above agent's office that you could drop a basketball through. At least they didn't doze it like they did Rogers.

Please see my thread under Freight Operations, "Apple Blossom Time and Toothpicks", regarding freight movement from the Pacific Northwest to Florida. Ed Bunch, retired Frisco Tampa, Florida, off-line traffic agent, asked me if I can find out the time it takes today compared to his days when the Frisco forwarded the freight from KC to Birmingham and picked up and delivered by the ACL, SAL or the merged SCL and currently by BNSF or UP to CSX.

Ed turns 88 on Sept. 21st. He doesn´t own a computer and lives in Clearwater, Florida. I call him every Saturday and we chat up to two hours about his boyhood life on the family farm near Amory, Mississippi, to his Frisco career as a mudhop in Amory to claim agent in Pensicola to his off-line traffic agent years in Tampa and Miami. I try and answer his Frisco questions best as I can but need your help on the freight movement times compared from the 1960s through the first half of 2011.

As a former MKT freight rate clerk, I would suggest finding a Uniform Freight Classification or a Standard Transportation Commodity Code book, as they might have a description of games, and would give you a rough idea, of what they might
be. I don't remember ever having that commodity, so I can't give more help.
