    Folks -
Jim's Labor Day wishes prompted me to thumb through some of my old Friscoiana. One of the first to be reviewed is a copy of the Constitution and Local By-Laws of the Frisco Association of Metal Crafts and Car Department Employees.

Article I, Section I of the association's constitution notes that membership "Will include...Machinists, Boilermakers, Sheet Metal Workers, Electricians, Apprentices, Power Plant Employees, Motor Car Maintainers, Brownhoist and Water Service men, Reclamation Plant employes, Roundhouse and Shop Laborers...".

My question: prior to organization under this association, would these positions have belonged to another union in SL-SF territory, prior to the incorporation of this association?

It is interesting that the petition to the "Circuit Court of Webster County, Missouri" asking for state recognition was submitted in May, 1923. I'm wondering if any previous association would have dissolved or otherwise vanished in the wake of the 1922 railroad strike?

At any rate, a belated happy Labor Day to all - especially those who have labored to keep the railroads running over the years.

    Best Regards,
