"Fantasy" -vs- "Making Do"

From time to time, things pop up on eBay and other places that are painted in Frisco colors, but are not prototypically correct.

Is it fair to say, that there is a distinct difference between modern-day "fantasy" paint schemes, versus, stuff that was painted years ago, prior to today's glut of available equipment?

I often see disdainful remarks made about some items, yet often I pause to consider that back whenever said item was done, that's all we had to work with and could really be called "making do" as opposed to "fantasy" ?

    Your thoughts ?

to me it sounds like the ones who are making the rude disdainful comments are just jealous that they cant do it, or they are to lazy and would rather just buy something thats way over priced, the ones who do their own painting are doing it for what they like not for what others, if we all liked the same exact thing it would be a boring world

As a 13 year old in South Alabama during the 70's, finding a powered/dummy set of AHM Frisco GP18's at the Pensacola Woolco store was the find of a lifetime.......back then.

Obviously, by today's standards, they don't pass muster. Many offerings on eBay and such don't either, but if you look at what they are and reasonably estimate when they were done, it is usually apparent that said items have some "mileage" on them, age-wise.

While they come up short by today's standards, they were likely once the pride and joy of somebody's collection or layout. |-|

While still somewhat new to Frisco.org I find myself going through the older posted threads and came across this one in regards to fantasy models.

Athearn took it on themselves to release three fallen flag fantasy C44-9Ws in addition to the run of regular prototype railroad models. This was done despite their regular production run of other models, thus did not threaten their planned production runs including those scheduled to be manufactured with Frisco liveries.

It should be noted that ALL of the fantasy models produced are sold out at Athearn and any model railroader can contact them direct with any suggestion regarding a future production run of a model be it prototype or fantasy for the Frisco or any other road.

If Athearn decides to run a fantasy C44-9W for the Frisco without any assistance from Frisco.org they will produce and and release it anyway if they feel it will sell and if it per chance doesn´t meet any members choice as to how it should have looked like please do not post any negitive feedback here if you voted against this idea!

For this reason did I suggest if there was any interest in a fantasy model decorated for the Frisco. If production is set up to produce any o/w models for example, Athearn might find it feasible to add the C44-9W to the end of the production since the paint booths were programmed to run off the Frisco models anyway thus saving set-up costs. With or without a Coonskin herald on the nose!

    Please take this into consideration.
