I am trying to learn more about this Frisco depot in Eunice, LA. Trade publications and newspaper articles mention it was approved to be constructed in 1913. However, that was when the Frisco went into receivership, and I am not certain it was ever built. The postcard image below may have been created from an artist's conception. Any knowledge shared about the depot would be most appreciated. Thanks, Fred
Well, it definitely looks like a photograph, albeit a colorized postcard view. It could have very well have been constructed by the Frisco System right before or coinciding with receivership. Interesting, it has the look of a Frisco-style depot. It has themes that definitely remind me of others. I am not familiar with which lines in Louisiana and Texas were transferred to which railroads, post-Yoakum era. Nor do I know whether this style of depot is more representative of one of those successor railroads. Best Regards,
I appreciate the quick response, and you are correct that the building was built. Since I posted, I have located a woman whose family worked at the depot or across the street from it, and she has photographs of it in her family archive. Based upon the fact the postcard refers to it as the "Frisco depot" and not the "Missouri Pacific depot," it seems the depot was constructed by Frisco. The design is indeed similar to other depots of similar vintage on the line, such as Bolivar, MO and Hayti, MO. The Frisco depots from this era were more architecturally interesting than many of their peers.
Eunice is on the former Gulf Coast Lines Houston-New Orleans mainline. This is also the start of a branch line that ends in Crowley, LA. In Crowley, there was another Frisco depot that still stands. While I was living in the area, I took pictures of it. ( see http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/crowley-la.1071/ ) The branch line is still intact, run by a short line now, but the ex-GCL tracks by the Crowley depot are gone. Paul
I just did a search on Google. Found in The Tradesman, May 1, 1913 from Eunice, LA on page 50 confirmation. The Frisco will build a depot at Eunice. Michael Lowe
