After years of searching, this is the only photograph I have encountered of the Enid depot.

Does anyone know the street address where this depot was located?

I assume it was close to the AT&SF depot, but would like to know the exact location.

    Doug,

Hopefully someone here will have an answer!

Sanborn maps can be helpful. That is how I finally established the location of the Hayti, MO depot.

It looks like if you are willing to apply for a Tulsa City-County Library card, you might be able to access some Oklahoma Sanborn maps online.

    Good Luck!

A friend of mine in Enid told me that it was located between Washington and Independence and was taken over by SF.

    Doug,

The address of the Frisco's passenger depot in Enid was 724 North Independence Street.

The depot building sat south of the Frisco's tracks, west of Independence Street and east of Washington Street. The station from east to west had a covered outside waiting area, a "white" waiting room, a ticket office, a "Negro" waiting room, a baggage room, and a covered passenger platform. To the immediate west of the depot was a separate express building.

The postcard view above is from Independence Street looking to the northwest, south side of the depot. Additional photographs that include the Frisco's depot in Enid can be found in:
Frisco Power, by Joe Collias, M M Books, 1984, page 284.

This is a good photograph of the east and north sides at northeast corner looking southwest. Note the Santa Fe depot, north side, in distance on left edge of photograph.

In Frisco Southwest, by John McCall and Frank A. Schultz III, Kachina Press, 1982, page 76, there is minimal depot detail from the northwest corner looking east northeast.

The Frisco's depot was located north in the same 100 block and slightly east of the Santa Fe's depot. The Santa Fe depot address is 710 North Independence Street.

Between 9/1904 and 3/1908 Enid changed the numbering system for its streets in the area. Prior to 3/1908, the addresses with the old system were 1522 North Independence Street (SLSF) and 1512 North Independence Street (ATSF) respectively.

The Frisco's freight house, sometimes referred to as a freight depot, was located across the next street to the west. The address was 734 North Washington Street. The original Frisco Enid yard office was located to the east of the depot across the street at 727 North Independence Street.

The current Santa Fe passenger depot, which is still standing, is at least the second structure at that location. This station is a 1 story, Tudor style building, that included a baggage room. The building is currently used as a senior's center for meetings.

Their original (1st?) station was constructed by the Denver, Enid and Gulf (DE&G) Railroad. It was a 2 story building that included an attached freight house. The second story included offices for the train master. This depot had a slightly different address, 712 (verses 710) North Independence Street. The DE&G was acquired by the ATSF 6/20/1907.

About the same time the "new" or current passenger only depot was constructed, between 2/1925 and 5/1930, a separate ATSF freight depot was constructed one block to the west, across the street at 716 North Washington.

It was just south of and across the Santa Fe's tracks from the Frisco's freight house. This structure is now the home of the Railroad Museum of Oklahoma. Please see the following link.

Terra Server USA is a good tool for research as it includes topographic maps, black and white aerial and in some cases color "Urban Areas" photographs. Best of all it can be accessed for free! You can zoom in and out and change between image types - maps or photographs.

If you go to the link below you can see a metal storage building, south of the tracks and west of Independence Street, on the site of the former Frisco station. The Santa Fe passenger depot is just to the southwest, south of the former Santa Fe tracks. Their freight depot is also south of the former Santa Fe tracks, across Washington Street to the west. Please see the following link.

Enid was an interesting railroad town in the days of the Frisco with the SLSF, ATSF and CRIP. Grains, mainly wheat, and oil were king at the time and contributed to each railroad's car loadings and profitability.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks!

    Thanks Chris, Mike and Mark.

Mark saved me the trouble of looking up the location at Sanborn Maps, and provided beaucoups of details about the Frisco and AT&SF stations in the process. I am humbled by your knowledge.

I grew up in Enid, one block from the Rock Island mainline and used to hang out under the old Frisco wooden trestle over Elm Street.

Yes indeed, Enid was a very interesting railroad town back in the day.

I hope to get back there one day to see the current BNSF and UP action.
