Folks, Keith's excellent post recently on diesel fonts has led me back to an elusive quest. I've searched for fonts that would come close to what the Frisco used for depot and blind station signs, similar to what Karl has posted below, for instance: http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/blind-station-sign.1025/ Any one have any thoughts? The closest I've been able to find is one called "Turnpike" http://www.dafont.com/search.php?psize=m&q=turnpike However, it still does not look right to me. Best Regards,
Chris I think you've hit the nail on the head. One small little detail I've noticed: the "corners" on the standard plan signs and station signs in photos aren't as "sharp" as on the "Turnpike" font. I'm guessing it's because they were hand painted. Tom
Tom, Indeed the Turnpike font does look "curvier." I recall, now, why I had downloaded it: it looks like it would come pretty close to the "CHAFFEE" depot lettering. http://www.chaffeemissouri.com/depotchaffee.html Best Regards,
Actually, Chris, I think that Bank Gothic Medium BT looks a lot closer. Take a look at the sample print.
I have been using a font called Eurostyle for my Frisco depot signs. It is very similar to the font Keith mentioned only a little more rounded. After examining both fonts and comparing them to the Greenfield sign, I would say Keith has the winner with Bank Gothic Medium BT. Dale Rush Carthage, MO
Dale, thanks for the input. I appreciate it, as I consider you a subject-matter expert in this area. I'll have to check Eurostyle out. Best Regards,
