North Clinton, MO, MP 86.2 - Yard Photo I have attached a photo of Frisco's North Clinton, MO, MP 86.2, yard. Photo was taken from the abandoned tower at the MKT/Frisco crossing looking south/southeast over the yard. Photo was taken by Don Kaiser, date unknown, but there is a GP7 at the service track adjacent to the roundhouse in the yard. Dale Rush Carthage, MO
I was wondering how far to the south the Clinton yard extended past the MKT / Frisco interlocking. Maybe what street it ended or even how many feet to the south it extended. Thanks.
A couple of years ago I posted a photo of the yard taken by Don Kaiser. View is looking southeast from the tower that stood in the SE quadrant of the MKT/SLSF crossing and wye. Photo was probably taken in the late 50's. Scale track on left was 942'. Next three tracks from left to right were 1144', 1168' and 1603'. Photo in post #1 this thread. Also posted a track map and industry map from the 30s at http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread...Industry-List-amp-Track-Map&highlight=clinton Karl and Bradley Scott posted some nice diagrams of the yard at http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?932-Clinton&highlight=clinton+yard Dale Rush Carthage, MO
Thank you. I had viewed your posted photo but had no idea length of track for the yard. Those measurements will help a lot.
Attached are copies of the USGS topo sheets, North Clinton and South Clinton. The maps were published during 1953. I have drawn the abandoned KCCS trackage with a red line. The former KCCS trackage that served several South Clinton industries remained, and the Frisco used the MKT to reach those industries. The remaining KCCS tracks are annotated. The topo maps are a little different than this map from the 30's. Was the yard a little bigger in the 30's or the topo maps from 1953 not quite accurate when it comes to the number of tracks?
I always trust the railroad's own engineering drawings over the USGS topo maps. The railroad surely was much more concerned with accuracy concerning their properties and drawings of track and structure location than the USGS where the railroad was only a small part of the larger overall picture. My 2 cents worth on the subject! Dale Rush Carthage, MO
Yes I agree. I also found Karl's father's drawing of the Clinton yard and they were very helpful. I'm not sure how I missed the Clinton drawing. I think I have most of the others from the Highline.
