My grandmother saved a copy of The Dallas Morning News that contained pictures of the flood that visited Carrollton and environs in late winter or early spring 1949. There was a photo of a Frisco freight train that had hit a washout just south of Valley View Lane in Farmers Branch. Downtown Carrollton was also shown and it too was under water. I assume the Cotton Belt depot (a joint Frisco/Katy agency as well) and the Katy´s Tower 77 was also flooded since they were located just to the NE of downtown on Denton Road where the Frisco crossed the Katy and Cotton Belt.

Regretfully, my cousin told me that she couldn´t find the paper after my grandmother moved from Dallas to Tampa in the early 1990s.

Can anyone shed some light on the flood and the washout? I would assume the washout would have been reported in the employee magazine shortly after the occurance as well?
