I'm having a model built of car #844, a coach, baggage, caboose combination(pictured on page 247 of "Frisco Power". Does anyone know the color of the car? It's got passenger lettering so I'm assuming it's Pullman green. Also, does it have the "mule skin" roof? Thanks for the help. Larry F.

The late Richard Napper built a model of this car and published an article on how to do it. Not sure which publication it was in. Seems to me off hand it was not Craftsman or MR.

Thank you one and all and in particular Keith. As slow as Tom works I'll probably asking this again as we will have forgotten the original thread. Larry

I believe it was in Caboose Kibitzer, the MCoR NMRA publication. Richard mailed me a copy of his article years ago when I'd inquired about the car at some point or another. Based on where I lived at the time, it must've been pre-1998. I'll have to see if I can find it.

I do recall that Richard's model and article included the car in its as-built wood sheathing; the photo that George linked above shows the car in its steel sheathing. Based on 843's history, this probably happened c. 1946.

I think both 843 and 844 had "muleskin" roofs, but I'd have to double-check. This one's definitely on my "model it someday" list.

    Best Regards,

Follow-up: I was pretty sure I'd transcribed the text from Richard's article here somewhere...and here it is.

    Caboose-Coach Combine #844

If I can find the article, I'd be happy to try to scan the photos. However, as my copy is a copy, I'm not sure how well they'll do up. First things first, though.

Larry, I'm looking forward to seeing your finished model, or even photos of the work in progress.

    Best Regards,

Here are the All Aboard links to Richard's article, Coach-Cabooses on the Hoxie Sub and Centerspread diagram

Here are pictures of the model kit-bashed in styrene by Tom Teeples here in KC for Larry Fey. Tom used Richard's article and other info found herein to create it.

Thanks Keith. I'm dreading the rivets but they must go on!

Wow! I've been wanting to build that thing for several years but never got off the ground. Decal rivets are your friend.
