Cape LaCroix Creek Overpass - Bridge 133.5 - Cape Girardeau, MO, MP 131.3 - St. Louis Subdivision

Cape LaCroix Creek bridge, looking south.

The large shadowy structure is the Lone Star Cement, previously Marquette Cement, plant.

The steel portion of the bridge consists of one 77'-6" deck plate girder (DPG). The bridge was erected in 1929.

Edit 2/1/2024: Added bridge detail narrative, bridge number, mile post and subdivision.

Cape LaCroix Creek Overpass - Bridge 133.5 - Cape Girardeau, MO, MP 131.3 - St. Louis Subdivision

Cape LaCroix Creek bridge, south side of Cape Girardeau, River Division.

Bridge 133.5, is 0.4 miles south of the Missouri Pacific (MP) Railroad crossing interlocking, MP 133.1.

Edit 2/1/2024: The crossing was originally the Cape Girardeau and Northern (CG&N) Railroad and C.G.&N.R.R. Crossing, MP 133.1. The railroad was originally part of the Louis Houck empire of railroads.

The CHN was a T shaped railroad with its western terminus at Farmington and eastern terminus at West Chester, MO. They operated a car ferry across the Mississippi River to Chester, Illinois.

This line became part of the Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1925. Shortly afterward their route north of Cape Girardeau was abandoned. The remnant between its industrial area in the city and a southern connection became a stub end branch. The MP abandoned this segment in the 1960s.

Added crossing narrative, station mile post, crossing mile post and subdivision.
