This is one of the wood side cabooses with a cupola that featured sloped sides and small end windows. The caboose was originally constructed in 1907. The end shot shows several details typical on Frisco wood cabooses. These items include the end marker light brackets, yellow Scotchlite diamond reflectors, end railings with a high bar for safety and end door with small window light pane. The leaf springs in the trucks show nicely in this view.

The caboose was presented to the Wichita Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society as a donation from the railroad on March 20, 1961. Prior to railroad delivering the caboose it was repainted at the Frisco car shops in Springfield, MO. The railroad then shipped the car to Wichita free of charge.

The caboose was presented by employee George Snyder, General Agent, for the Frisco in Wichita. It was presented to Ken Murray, NRHS Chapter President, and chapter member Bill Bain. The caboose was subsequently transferred to and is on display at a local museum.

The museum is currently restoring the caboose, including repainting the exterior. The caboose is at the Great Plains Transportation Museum, in south central Kansas. Please see http://www.gptm.us.

The address is 700 East Douglas, Wichita, KS.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!
