I have been seeing a BNSF locomotive (GP-38 I think) for several weeks parked in the Ruth Yard on the west side of Joplin that for all the world looks like its been painted in the Great Northern's blue & white paint scheme. Does anyone know if this is a continuation of BNSF's 'Heritage' paint scheme's, or perhaps just a GATX lease unit that was hastily repainted?

Which leads me to a question that has no doubt been asked by others...will we see BNSF units in Orange/White schemes at some future date?

Maybe the "Loco Notes" Group could answer this question?

For Myself -- I'd drive a thousand miles to see a B/Y GP35 with torpedo tubes again. I loved that engine - just looked sinister - something outta "Star Wars".

    Ethan,

Are you are referring to the Frisco's yard in Joplin?

The Frisco documents I have refer to this as Ruth Yard verses Ruby. The Frisco's main yard was located southwest of downtown to the east of Rosevelt Avenue, west of South Maiden Lane and north of West 20th Street.

Please see the following for a satellite view: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...2086,-94.538416&spn=0.005016,0.01236&t=h&z=17

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

On the Ft scott sub here (on the frsico it was the ash grove sub) the only GATX loco's are AC4400's, I know BN used to have some sky blue units, but I didn't think any of those survived.

Yes, that is the same yard. I was recalling a conversation I had back in late 2007. In that conversation with an MNA employee I thought he had refered to it as Ruby Yard...however, my memory isn't the best, and he may well have said Ruth. Thanks for the correction.

  6. Read Decembers Trains magazine it says that the BNSF bought a few ex-Conrail units and just painted BNSF in white letters.
    Ship it on the Frisco!!!

I have seen a picture of one of those. I thought it was a joke.
