The PBS Ken Burns documentary "The American Buffalo," part 2 was a good story about recovery of the species. Around 1913, a small group of bison were shipped by rail in horse cars from the Bronx Zoo to re-establish a herd in Oklahoma. The final station was Cache, Oklahoma, about 3 miles west of Lawton. These bison had to ride on the Frisco! There was no mention whether the cars were on passenger trains, special movements or on freight trains. Since horse cars were involved, I would imagine some of the routing was on passenger trains. The documentary also gave prominent mention to Quanah Parker and his Star House where he hosted President Theodore Roosevelt. Their discussion was about bison conservation.
