I have been chatting with one of my friends that is a big fan of the Frisco. Well he lives in the Branson area, but he has asked me to post a notification that he plans to do some restoring on Frisco 4524. For now he plans to remachine the side rods and give the drivers and firebox a new coat of paint. Eventually he may repaint the whole thing, and when he does it will it will still be in the FFF scheme. I unfortunately will not be able to help, to far, but he needs the frisco community's help in the Springfield area to get this beast looking good again. If you have any questions contact Dominique Hogue via email at bnsf1522@yahoo.com

  2. :) Whoa I was actually chating with Dominique Hogue via Facebook recently. He mentioned working on this project he is also a member of the Saving the Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Rwy Project. I plan on finding some time to go to one of the ES&NA meets over the summer with him. Funny how I meet him online though. I commented on one of his Frisco 1522 Pics that our posted on the facebook teen railfan page. I really think it is funny what a small world we seem to live in. Hey Ethan if you Have a Facebook I'd recomend joining the Teen Railfan page lots of Frisco stuff on there. If you have one look me up. I put my whole name on facebook(Murphy Zane Jenkins-Henson). It dose seem nice though that we do have more youth interested in seeing the Frisco survive into the future.
    Ship it on the Frisco!!!

Well 1st of all yes I'm Dominique and what Ethan means by remachining that the rods are painted in a rathe white paint and I'm thinking of getting them to a black finish.

And seeing the smokebox is grey rather then black, thats why it'lll be repainted.

I also plan to polish the bell and lub 4524 to prevent parts from diteriating or freazing.

That makes more sense. Polishing the valve gear would be nice also, but then you would have to protect it from rust. Black is the way to go.
Please get rid of the whitewalls and the grey counterbalances while you are at it. They really detracted from the appearance of the engine after the FFF logo was done. Make her look like she did in her prime.

Oddly thats the main goal of this project.
My goal is to get as many volunteers to help with upkeep and tours with 4524.
And keep her in TOP shape.
Lol never know when we'll take her outta the park on the bnsf :p.

    Hello gentleman,

I am the president of the Railroad Historical Museum in Springfield Missouri and I am also the project manager of the restoration of the 4524. I have two men that are retired from the BNSF that have done ALL of the work on the sheet metal of the locomotive and myself and another have played a major role in helping with this and other tasks. Dom has been up to assist a couple of times and we are glad to have his help but I cannot take any of the credit away from the men that are doing the real work. This has been a 2 year project and we have had a major struggle with funding of this project.

Also there has been mention of the paint scheme on this site that is to be used on the locomotive. For you that are into building models and have never worked on the railroad (the men and myself have a combined total years worked for a real railroad of 160 years) the paint scheme of the locomotive changed each time that the 4524 went into a different shop on a different subdivision (check some of your pictures).

The Frisco 4524 is a PARK LOCOMOTIVE and not a working locomotive or model. The public that comes to view the locomotive is atracted to different aspects of it. The tires and counter ballances are highlighted to enhance the overall look of the engine as well as the drive rods and we get many positive coments about the above mentioned.

We are always looking for people to volunteer and we are also open to new and better ideas. Keep in mind that if you have ideas and want something changed SHOW UP AND VOLUNTEER SOME OF YOUR TIME DON'T JUST TALK ABOUT IT. We now have over 4000 VOLUNTEER hours in this project and project another 2000 more before it's done.

She should be done by the end of the month and the Frisco.org convention is in Springfield this year so come by and see what some old guys have done to preserve a part of railroading history.

    Ethan,
I'm not sure where you came to a conclusion that I was "leading" the cosmetic restoration of 4524.Infact a restoration of this sort (Even if it is for cosmetic display), is some thing that can't be done lead by a teen.

    Everyone else,
As stated by Bill, I am by NO MEANS a board member or anything of the sort.I help yes, but I am not one of the heavy hitters.Infact we've a good group of people over these past months who have done more then I can ever dream of.All information using this username prior to this coment, have been under an anonimous individual hacking my account and spreading false information on the 4524 (And possibly other topics).Infact after an absense of over a year, I have returned to Frisco.org to change this and hopefully this issue will not arise in the future.I advice for future reference concerning topics of this nature, (Especially regarding the RRHM and Frisco 4524), that all questions be asked to any board member.

I send my deepest apologies to those of you who have fell victim to this escapade.

The thread does seem to be drifting into a grey area, maybe it should be locked.

    Bill,

Attached is a photo of 4524 in late 1965 with a fresh coat of paint. Based on the date it is possible that this was the first painting of the engine since it was moved to the park. The smoke box was gray in this photo, but the smoke box appeared to be black, or dark gray in the 1953 park delivery photos. The video of the engine move sold by the museum should confirm the color.

"Old 4524" was just a 23 year old "pup" in 1965! My opinion of the 4500's smokebox finish is that the original "paint" (Actually graphite) appeared glossy when new and had not been subject to much extreme heat. Then after a period of time the smoke box finish began to take on a matte "charcoal" look. After the engine had been retired and wouldn't ever expected to be fired up again, the smokebox finish (Whether black or gray) was just "paint."

Thread closed accordingly. We can start a separate on on memories of 4524 if we wish, but the restoration issue seems to have met its end.

    Best Regards,
