Doe anyone have a drawing or a photo of a crossing gate. Interested in the counterweight of the arm. What did Frisco have during early diesel or late steam era. Thanks, John
I’d wager that on the Frisco during the steam era, highway-grade crossing gates were a rare thing. My grandfather spoke of the Evans “Auto-Stop” device. Evidently, the Frisco tried a few of these, but after testing, the product was deemed unsatisfactory. He noted that they were very good at removing the undercarriage of the automobile from its body.
I will use servo motors with a linkage attached to the crossing gate arm near the pivot point. Circuitry designed for the lights and arm activation using photocells will be acquired from Logic Rail Technologies.
