Here a couple projects, one long term, one a later project still in the process. The FB-1M SL-SF 190 I did years ago, but I didn't have good picture evidence as to how the roof was modified be EMD after their work to re-power same. Below are a couple images of the FB modified and headed back into service. Below are some progress images, weathering, and glazing need to be done. This one was much more work than the FB; installed the handrails on the nose, although one would wonder why they are there. No MU connections or hoses were applied to the FA's in images I've seen; they will always be a leading or trailing unit. Also found some old louver decals and applied to the nose sides under the number boards in the Yellow. Then added the grab irons along the side of nose. If you look just under the side sill, you will see a boxcar looking type stirrup step, only I could not find one that looked right, so I used some brass flat strap and bent my own up, soldered in a rung in the middle to match the prototype. Roof top and side view images, I used .015 brass wire to bend and make 9 of the 12 vertical handrails on the sides of this thing, I used decals from several sheets to make the austerity scheme on 5216. Now to some weathering. Thanks for stopping by.
Those look great Tom. Nice details added to both like usual. Your paint and decals turned out nice too.
Hell, I would be afraid to to pick it up. I guess that would would be a loose reference to model railroad visitor etiquette.
Thanks for the replies and likes everyone, made a little progress, today, and these 2 are headed out to the train barn and into service.
Those are the wrong era for your layout, Tom. They would look better on my fictitious QA&P layout!!! Paul
Got a little time in the MRR barn today and got some images of this train. Below, east bound at the main yard power is on the train, air tested and ready to depart. Now out on the east lead about to enter MT2. A view from above as our intrepid train starts the long 1.5% climb to the summit and on a crossing. Below, we are at Punkin Center rd. Always gotta wave at the kids. On the bridge over Long Lake, people swimming, camping or just out train chasing. Below is my miserable attempt at getting the entire train in an image, almost got it, 4 locos, 61 cars and a caboose. Going past Lazar. Some folks camp right next to the main track, I've seen it. Thanks for stopping by.
Im not happy with the way that FB is sitting on the frame. Looks like it is higher on one end to me. I hate when that happens.
Tom, Great shots! Your layout is awesome, 4 head end power and 61 cars and a caboose. 5216 is home! SALUTE!
Thanks John. My layout will never be as good as yours. Those 4 units struggled a bit in the tunnel district. Think I will add another unit.
4 units = 6,000 + - hp, 61 cars , yep 1 more oughta do it, if not, 2 Now that would be an impresive lash up.
I got another (and likely final) QA&P SD40T-2 #746 almost done last night. Here it is fresh out of the shops yesterday. This gives us the QA&P's 746,747, 748, 749 and the bicentennial unit 1976, tunnel units. Now some light weathering and out to the train barn and into service. Thanks for stopping by.
