Variety of Giclee prints of original drawings of locomotives by yours truly. Posted is a sample of a Bolshevik loco. PM for sizes/prices/locos. Commissions accepted. Updated with some more thumbs.
Well, a while. Some go more smoothly than others. Diesels are extremely difficult because of doors, handrails, louvers, screens, shock absorbers, etc. I will also never attempt to draw another Big Boy.
Oh, I dunno'. I sort of like it. I readily admit that all the previous paint schemes of the Rock Island were more appealing to my purist side. BUT... the Bankrupt Blue scheme weathered quickly and had nice weathering effects to learn from for modeling purposes. Those Bankrupt Blue units sure were eye-popping when absolutely fresh! Andre
I wish I had been present at the marketing meeting when that was decided. Must have been a heck of a pitch.
It might have been an interesting meeting, for sure. I suspect that in their minds, they wanted to get away from the "somber" tones represented in 90% their previous schemes. Personally, I thought the red w/yellow book ends and large speed lettering was a nice image and attractive. However, it appeared the marketing and design team wanted to make a jolting and clean break from their past. That they did! Andre
What amazes me is the large number of the blue RI covered hoppers I still see in use. The Rock has been gone as long as the Frisco but I still see Rock cars often.
I've got some pictures around here somewhere of the blue-paint orgy at El Reno in the late 70's. I'll post them when I dig them up.
That Rock Island Geep looks like the Red/Yellow scheme, or am I wrong? I thought the blue had a big "R" on it...
