Thanks Bob for posting this announcement. Here are some further details:

Features herald panels sized and positioned per prototype, detailed upper deck including prototypical crown and deck tread, die-cast metal underframe, and 70-ton roller bearing trucks with rotating bearing caps. Car requires a 22” minimum radius. $49.98. Genesis series.

One key word is Genesis series which means that it will be a beautifully detailed model about as close as one can get to being a brass model in plastic.

Wonder what the minimum radius will be for this guy. Don't imagine it will look too good on my 22" main!

Not sure why they decided to put the 1970s Trailer Train paint scheme on a car delivered in the 1960s. I believe the lettering on the flat should be the same as on the Wabash and NYC models only all black. I think this is the same style of car as in the photo on page 107 of Nick Molo's Frisco/Katy Color Guide. Maybe Nick can chime in here and let us know. Since I model the late sixties I'd much rather have a model with the as delivered scheme than a seventies repaint. You can always justify a sixties era car on a seventies era layout but not a seventies car on a sixties layout. Since the model shown is a probably preproduction sample I wonder if we could get them to change the lettering. I'd rather not pay fifty bucks for a car I'm going to have to redo except for the coonskin.

IIRC, the announcement said the minimum radius would be 22 inches, but obviously it would look better on broader radii.

I don't have anything from genesis this big, but I run Walthers 89' autoracks on my 22" curves all the time and they work just fine, and really they don't look too bad either. I've seen the same cars run on Rick McClellan's layout that at the smallest is 30" radius he told me once, and it doesn't look that much different between the two.

The cars look great though. I hope a certain significant other doesn't get mad when I buy one or two.

Congratulations, Ethan, and welcome to our world of "never telling";). I keep telling my wife that I am through buying, but when new models like these pop up, and with the NEED:rolleyes: being so great, I have to go back on my word. Seriously though, my wife is very understanding, or maybe long suffering is a better description, about my purchases.

    Ray and everyone,

Athearn did this one because they were provided with the information for it. If anyone has a sixties photo or delivery photo please pass it on to me. At least we did get a Frisco car in the first release, pretty amazing.

    Nick,

If you were behind the effort to get Athearn to produce a Frisco version, then a thousand thank-yous for your efforts!

036.JPG I have six "ACCURAIL" 89' auto racks that I painted and lettered "FRISC0". Decals were from Oddballs. I wanted to fill these cars with Chrysler products that were made in the 60's, since I have a wye that leads to the hidden storage tracks for the Chrysler plant. As far as the vehicles go, there are not anything out there. Lucky I found what I have to fill one and a half cars. John|-|

Nice, job, John. I also have an Accurail bilevel that I am going to model for the Frisco. However, I am going to use the kit to model the bilevel on page 108-the 961296. I will have to cut off the posts flush with the upper deck and make some other minor adjustments, but since the car on page 107 will now be available from Athearn, modeling the 961296 will give me a couple of different Frisco bilevels. What color yellow did you use? I have been told to use Floquil yellow, but it is not available. I bought the Railbox yellow and that is not the correct yellow.

Terry, the color I used was Floquil Target Yellow, if you can find it!

Have you considered using some of your vehicles as masters to make resin copies? When the Fresh Cherries vehicles came out, I made it a point to buy one of each, but no more than that, so I could make my own copies.

I gave it some consideration, however, looks like a tedious process. Have you done this? A fellow MR did this and explained the process. The most difficult part is making the mold, after that it can get messy, he gave me a quote to do these, it came out to be about $6.12 ea. and I had to paint them. The Eko cars were $5.99 ea., but the savings versus the initial cost of supplies may not be worth it, however you have the models that you want that are not available.

    Still scratching my head,

    John

    To All:

There is already some chatter on the MFCL Yahoo Group about the vehicle situation. One poster said that he thought the Frisco cars were used in pool service at the Chrysler plant in St. Louis. He also pointed out that Williams Bros. was again producing their clear plastic vehicles and to look at either the 1978 El Camino Type C or especially the 1977 4 Door Type D.

    http://www.williamsbrothersmodelproducts.com/cars.html

I also read that there was considerable singing in the Athearn reps ear to produce some cars of their own. Any input?

Bob, I would be extremely pleased if some one would build anything 1978 as I have 1978 Chevrolet Impalas and Ford Fairmonts loaded or waiting to be loaded onto my trilevels. 1977 would work, also, but 1978 would be perfect for me. That would fill a great need for me.

John, thanks for the color, but finding a Floquil color is difficult these days. I will keep looking.
