It is a fake. I am not even sure on this, but I am thinking it may be a Terminal Railway Association (TRRA) Of St. Louis caboose. Funny though non-Frisco cabooses get painted Frisco, and true Frisco cabs get other odd paint schemes. Could not we just trade out with some people? Ship it on the Frisco! Murphy Millican
The trucks appear to be clearly marked for the Reading Railroad. While I am not an expert on RDG cabooses, it looks like that is a possibility. Gordon
Not sure about the Reading trucks but this was painted TRRA when it first showed up at Puxico, MO. Funny how that Southeast Missouri ends up with these "fakes". The ugly, funky looking Frisco painted caboose at Poplar Bluff, MO has a cupola and bay window! A Cotton Belt bay window caboose at Scott City, MO was a Southern Pacific (SP) car. Not too bad, same color scheme but why not one of the St. Louis Southwestern's (SSW) own cars? The wide vision caboose at East Prairie, MO painted up in Cotton Belt red is actually a not so old BN caboose. The old Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) caboose at Sikeston, MO is painted Missouri Pacific (MP) red but not lettered yet. Maybe they will not letter it. It seems like there is an old Illinois Central (IC) caboose around here somewhere. But at least they have cabooses. We had a great original wood sided Frisco caboose here in Chaffee, MO that the rotten kids around here burned down.
Terminal Rail Road Association (TRRA). They do transfer work from rail line to rail line in St. Louis. Dan Edit 5/13/2024: At one time they owned and operated the St. Louis Union Station depot and the Eads Bridge. Today they continue to switch local industries, operate the Madison Avenue hump yard and do interchange transfer work in the St. Louis, MO and East St. Louis, IL metropolitan areas. They also own and operated the MacArthur and Merchants railroad bridges spanning the Mississippi River. The TRRA is owned by the railroads that serve St. Louis. MKD
TRRA is an association owned jointly by the major railroads serving St Louis. They do much of the inter-line switching between railroads and much of the customer pick-up and delivery switching on both the Missouri and Illinois sides of the greater St. Louis area. In the glory days, TRRA also owned and operated St. Louis Union Station depot. For many years, TRRA's locomotive and caboose colors were gray with white lettering. In the 1960s, they switched to red colors with white lettering, which remains their paint scheme today. They had a mixed diesel switcher fleet, with units from every major builder including Lima-Hamilton, but today TRRA has an EMD roster. Ken
The "Frisco" caboose at Poplar Bluff, MO was originally New Haven, then later Conrail. It was involved in a derailment near Poplar Bluff. It was sold to our model railroad club for $500.00 and we used it for several years parked in front of the depot. At that time the depot was being used as the police department. When the city moved the police to a new building, we started the process to have the depot saved, the city wanted to demolish it.
