Just across the road (North Second Street which was US 62) is one of the switches forming the wye off the Bentonville Branch. That track crosses the road again to get to a switch going east on the Branch, just beyond the "Lead" sign. Beyond the covered hoppers which are likely more plastic pellets being stored is switch onto the Branch heading northwest. Most of this track is still in existence in 2013. SteveM
The A & M RR and Wal-Mart are in discussion about Wal-Mart's purchase of the entire four-mile Bentonville Branch .The A & M was prohibited from soliciting intermodal pursuant to its 1986 purchase and lease agreement with BN. The A & M became free in 2001 so there is no prohibition on intermodal. The National Railway Historical Society will hold its Annual Convention in June 2014 in Springdale. The first scheduled event is a one car rare mileage trip on the Bentonville Branch which was cut back from Grove, OK to Bentonville in September 1940.
