With apologies to Conrail fans I offer the following. I got this Genesis SD45-2 for a great deal, so well I just had to do something with it. It was already weathered up pretty good, had no horn nor front plow, and some damage I put on a horn, front plow and some sunshades. Black lined the Conrail and patched for the QA&P. I suppose it will get repainted some day.
That is a great piece. Your whole modern QA&P theme is as well. I love the well thought out but imaginative approach you use. Patched out and leased power is a must on a modern road anyway. If I somehow live long enough and finish enough other things to build a layout I hope I can be as creative as you are with yours.
It looks like some of the better-looking patched units that go by out back from time to time. E-L bought 13 SD45-2 locomotives, Conrail took them over (http://www.trainweb.org/jaydeet/sd45-2.htm) and doubtlessly re-painted one or more. NS repainted one to the original E-L gray, yellow and red in 2015 (http://trn.trains.com/news/news-wire/2015/09/30-el-ns). Some apparently still operate with Conrail Shared Assets in the Northeast, but it is neat to see one has moved out west. Rule 1 clearly gives you free reign, but I join geep07 in the recommendation that you keep it as it is, at least for a little while for a "contemporary railroading" look. I also hope you will consider including E-L in the "history" of this unit, just for fun. George
That is a "brutish looking" locomotive. I imagine that it is just the camera angle, but looks yougeee! Fairly good weathering .. Leave it be!

I get better pics. don't know, but I fear there was a weatherin bomb applied, and my attempt to save same. I really need to do better photos... It will remain patched. It is a 2 ton Tessy, wow really pulls good, just like a good old EMD should. I have been on ATSF SD45-2's, they were good clean power. Went DOL at Dotsero under I-70 on a MRL SD45-2. Both were good power, as you all know, I'm partial to the old EMD's, never have to wait on them to go to work. They are loud, rattle, and crude. And make me look good LOL. As for the EL or CR references. This loco was unit was an EL order, I am happy to hear the units history, but I don't know very much about it. Kindest regards, and please carry on.
