Thought I'd start a thread for my layout. Still in the planning stages at the moment, but I've started working on some rolling stock and I've got a few structures I'm going to use that I build a long time ago. I post a few pix over the next few days. Looking forward to feedback from you all.

I got some great feedback on my track plan when I posted in another thread here last month. I've made some changes based on that feedback and I am looking for more. Please let me know what you think. I've got a video coming out on YouTube about this process in about 4 weeks, and I'll post a link to that here when I've uploaded it.
See what you think about these alterations. They eliminate the redundant x-over and flips the yard so you can use the siding as a switching lead. The short spur industry that was lost by its removal can go onto the longer switchback track off the yard, along with another industry. Switching that track will be a lesson in patience and a bit frustrating, though. Andre
Follow up: Just noticed the x-over on the right. I'd dump that one, too. The short one that I edited can be used for a utility runaround if you have a desire for such. OR, eliminate all the x-overs (and save a ton of $$ on buying the needed switches for same) and use the pass track for run around moves. Andre
Great questions. I'm a operations neophyte, so I'm still learning a lot about the subject. Please be patient. I put the additional x-over near the depot to allow a passenger train to load up and have the option of getting back on to the mainline or move into the yard to pick up any freight depending on the need. Perhaps this isn't accurate to how railroads operate, so see my point above. I didn't really think of the x-overs in the siding as redundant, but now I totally see that. I had envisioned the loop running counter clockwise primarily with the ability to run clockwise as well. Perhaps this isn't really possible. Thoughts? How would this impact my ability to connect to cars since my spurs are both on the right and left sides. For the spur on the left side of the layout, if I am only running clockwise, I would have the ability to do a runaround move, but it seems like it would a really long runaround.
I can see the crossover to the right as legit, somewhat, there is a yard lead track that is in front of the depot. The crossover will allow a train to bypass a switching move on the yard lead. Another thought is to move the depot further down, then you have a reason for the crossover. Or, move the depot on the other side of the tracks, then you don't need the crossover! John
Good idea, moving it to the other side of the tracks. I may do that. I might increase the size of the benchwork over there to 2 feet to make room for it. I plan on that being the downtown/business district.
